Anchor Charts

I love anchor charts!  Sometimes I get too caught up in the aesthetic part of them...but I think a visually interesting anchor chart is much better than a boring one!  I make anchor charts WITH the kiddos.  I never make them ahead of time, but actually during the lesson!  On occasion, PART of the anchor chart will be pre-setup.  But the main content is always created during the mini lesson, with the class.

Anchor charts serve as a collection of our learning.  We use them to hold our thinking.  We use them as a reference in subsequent days, weeks, and months!  Our school has a not-so-uncommon "rule" about only having 20% of the walls covered.  So...often we remove the anchor charts, and keep them in a pile for future reference.  It works, and we are complying with the rules (although I don't think anyone ever really checks the 20% wall-coverage thing!).  Any who....on with the charts!

We also use this chart to problem-solve peer-related conflicts, etc.  It's a handy chart!
