READING and WRITING OPTIONS
Writing Options: Alphabet Work
ABC Charts
Objective: Provide students with the opportunity to create their very own ABC chart using objects from your ABC bins/drawers. When to Introduce: This activity can either be done as a whole class or independently during Literacy Corner [centers] time. I've done it both ways. Both ways have been successful for me, but I prefer doing this as a whole class activity, and keeping everyone on the "same page" so to speak. How to Introduce: Cut tag board down to the size you prefer. Print off letter labels for students. Mark areas for letter labels to be applied on each tag board piece. Demonstrate how to remove a label from a label sheet and how to apply the label to the correct spot on the tag board. Have students write their name on the back of the abc chart (or in the upper left/right corner). Show students the ABC Objects in the ABC drawers. Model how to select one item, match it to its correct beginning sound (letter) on the tag board, and how to glue it down correctly, leaving room for the next letter. Differentiating the Task: Have students write their own ABC letters instead of providing letter labels. Have students match letter labels to handwritten letters that you've written inside each designated space for the letter labels. Materials: Pointers Tag Board Letter Labels A to Z Objects Storage Ideas: I store a variety of ABC objects in mini Sterilite pull out drawers. I have 26 letter drawers. Each drawer houses a variety of objects beginning with the letter each drawer focuses on. |
