Objective:

Students sequence letters and then match corresponding pictures to the letters.

How to Introduce:

Gather students at the carpet in an oval.

Distribute 1 – 2 letter “pillows” to each student.

Begin singing the “ABC SONG” and lay down the first few letter pillows.

As each letter is sung, the student with the letter lays the letter pillow down.

Repeat the song to order the entire alphabet.

Refer to an ABC chart for reference when students are not familiar with letter formation.

After all letters are in place, check the order by singing the song again.

Point to each letter as you sing the song.

Distribute 2 - 3  picture "pillows" to each student.

Have students look at their picture pillows and identify what is inside of them.

Use a pointer to point to the letters and match pictures to letters.

As students attach their picture to the matching letter, chant the pair: “A. Ants. /a/ /a/ Ant”  "A. Apple. /a/ /a/ Apple/"  "A. Anchor. /a/ /a/ Anchor" and so on...

When finished, ask students to find 2 - 3 picture pillows bottles and 1 letter pillow and to follow you.

Lead students to the ABC Literacy Corner.

Show them the container/drawer/bin where the activity will be stored.

Have students place their items into the drawer.

Remind students that when they come to the ABC Literacy Corner, they may do the activity.

NOTE - - the same ABOVE procedure would be repeated for EACH and EVERY different ABC sequencing "tool" [toy/manipulative - -as seen in the above pics].

Differentiating the Task:

Have students write the letters after they sequence them.

Have students write the picture words after placing them onto the letter pillows.
