Writing Options: Alphabet Work

Alphabet Sort Pocket Chart Objective: Students to sort letter and picture cut outs based on letter name/sound and picture name beginning letter. When to Introduce: After all letters have been introduced and when most students are comfortably working to name and identify letter sounds, shapes, and names. How to Introduce: I gather the class around the pocket chart and distribute the letter and picture pieces to students. We start with the Aa pocket and I call for the upper and lowercase Aa and pictures beginning with the short and long /a/ sound. We them move onto the letter Bb and so forth. Materials: Oriental Trading "Awesome Alphabet" Pocket Chart Sort Lakeshore Learning "Alphabet Sounds" Pocket Chart Sort Differentiating the Task: Have students remove all Aa pocket objects and put them into the pockets (clear) above the abc pouches and use a pointer to read the letters and pictures. Storage Idea: The activity is stored in a pull-out Sterilite drawer. The drawer is labeled with a sticker that identifies the activity and where it belongs [abc center]. |
