Objective:

Students to sort letter and picture cut outs based on letter name/sound and picture name beginning letter.

When to Introduce:

After all letters have been introduced and when most students are comfortably working to name and identify letter sounds, shapes, and names.

How to Introduce:

I gather the class around the pocket chart and distribute the letter and picture pieces to students.

We start with the Aa pocket and I call for the upper and lowercase Aa and pictures beginning with the short and long /a/ sound.

We them move onto the letter Bb and so forth.

Materials:

Oriental Trading "Awesome Alphabet" Pocket Chart Sort

Lakeshore Learning "Alphabet Sounds" Pocket Chart Sort

Differentiating the Task:

Have students remove all Aa pocket objects and put them into the pockets (clear) above the abc pouches and use a pointer to read the letters and pictures.

Storage Idea:

The activity is stored in a pull-out Sterilite drawer.  The drawer is labeled with a sticker that identifies the activity and where it belongs [abc center].
