ABC Clothespins Activity Source: I thank the fine teacher(s) at Hubbard's Cupboard - - http://www.hubbardscupboard.org/abc_sounds.html, for sharing the idea on their web site. Visit their site! It's OUT of this WORLD! :o) Objective: An activity that utilizes lettered clothespins and a "game board" containing 26 pictures (one for each letter of the alphabet). Students are to clip the corresponding clothespin to the correct picture. Each clothespin has a letter printed on it and matches a picture on the board (by beginning letter). The center can be self-checking if you add dot stickers with the correct letters (in the correct spot) on the back. These could be laminated, but it's easier to just slip them into page protector sheets. When to Introduce: After students have gained a better understanding of beginning letter sounds, and have had practice identifying/naming/matching beginning letter sounds, this activity is introduced and added to the ABC Corner (center). How to Introduce: Divide students into teams. Be sure each team has a set of A to Z clothespins, and an ABC Clothespin Sheet. Model for students how to identify the letters on the ABC clothespins. Model for students how to identify and name each object/animal/thing on the ABC game sheet. Model for students how to match clothespins to objects on the game sheet. Allow time for students to practice the activity in a small cooperative group. Add the activity to the ABC Corner (center). Differentiating the Task: Have students create a list of objects on each ABC Clothespin game board they played Materials: Pointers Clothespins with ABC Letters Programmed on Them Clothespin Game Sheets .ppt .doc .pdf Storage Ideas: Each ABC Clothespin Game Board and set of ABC clothespins is stored in its own color coded zipper bag. I color code each set of games so that both game boards and clothespins can easily find their way back to their home (zipper bag). The baggies are then stored in a Sterilite pull out drawer. The pull out drawer unit is stored in the ABC Corner (center) and is labeled so that students can easily identify the activity inside. |
