Objective:

Students lace or trace, or both!

Materials:

Trace and Lace Sets

Lauri Lacing Shapes

When to Introduce:

I introduce this activity the first month of school.

How to Introduce:

I distribute the lace and trace activities to various tables (some tables are lace, some are trace).

Provide the necessary materials needed for the activity.

I then have students select a table and work with the materials/do the activity.

After a few minutes we switch tables (clockwise/counterclockwise).

The materials are then added to the Fine Motor Literacy Corner and I remind students that when they visit the corner they may do the activity.

Differentiating:

Have students create funny, creative faces after tracing the shapes.

Have students create a design using the tracing shapes.

Have students create an environment for the dinosaur(s) after tracing dinosaur shapes.

Have students sequence the three little pigs story and retell it after lacing the shapes (I inherited my set of 3 pig storytelling lacing cards...can't seem to find them online).

Storage Ideas:

The lacing shapes and laces are stored in plastic/vinyl/poly envelopes.

The tracing shapes and laces are stored in plastic/vinyl/poly envelopes.

A label is attached to the container for easy identification.

The container is then placed in a "laundry" basket.
