Nuts and Bolts

IMG_2603 (Small).jpg (30359 bytes)

Objective:

Students twist and turn nuts and bolts to put together and take apart.

Materials:

Nuts

Bolts

When to Introduce:

I introduce this activity the first month of school.

How to Introduce:

Place a nut and a bolt at each student's desk.

Have them practice putting them together and taking them apart.

Have students switch spots to try their neighbor's nut and bolt.

Ask students to bring their nut and bolt to the group meeting area.

Have them place their nut and bolt into the storage container.

Remind students that when they visit the Fine Motor Corner (center), they may do the activity.

Differentiating:

Have students sort bolts by size.

Have students create a line of bolts from shortest to longest or vice versa.

Have students try to fit as many nuts on the nuts bolt as possible and then record their results for each size bolt.

Storage Ideas:

The nuts and bolts are all mixed together and placed in an empty (cleaned out) parmesan cheese container (clear).

A label is attached to the container for easy identification.

The container is then placed in a "laundry" basket.
