Reader's Workshop: Fix-Up Strategies

Students begin learning about Fix-Up Strategies beginning in September.  They learn these through Shared and Guided Reading lessons.  The emergent readers quickly learn that when they come across an unknown word, it is very helpful to have a "tool box" of ways to fix the problem, thus solving the unknown word.  The Fix-Up Strategies are taught and reinforced throughout the year.  Students who own the strategies independently practice using them during Reaidng Options time.  Students needed additional guidance in learning/using the Fix-Up Strategies get additional support during Guided Reading.  You will find the "skeleton" mini lesson scope and sequence below as well as any supporting documents that are needed.
